Which type of club/chapter should I try getting into?

keyboard_arrow_right

This is purely based on your interest. If you feel you're getting a lot of academic knowledge from college lectures and online courses, you might want to have an extra-curricular activity just to break away from the usual flow of the day. There are clubs for dancing, singing, standup comedy, anime(yep that's right), dramatics, movie making etc. Basically you name it there will be something or the other for you. Or if you feel that I want to further improve my skills in your respective field, I would highly recommend to join a technical club/chapter. And if you wanna make interesting and projects that help the masses, VinnovateIT is the club to join😉

How good are the sports facilities?

keyboard_arrow_right

VIT has 4 tennis grounds, 2 badminton grounds, 2 volleyball courts,2 basketball courts,2 swimming pools, 4 gyms and a common field where you can play football or cricket. How difficult are the exams conducted?

keyboard_arrow_right

The exams in the college have been divided into 3 parts, CAT-1, CAT-2 and FAT. As for the difficulty level it is approximately the same as what you would expect in most engineering colleges i.e. one day of studying should be enough for CAT 1 and CAT 2 considering you do have some basic knowledge about the topic. As for the final assessments or the FAT it is better if you have gained some decent knowledge in the CATs if not then also it's fine if you start a week before and actually study when you get the time during the breaks between the exams. Overall it's relative grading so all this won't matter much as long as you can keep up with your classmates.

How many credits should I take each semester?

keyboard_arrow_right

I am in my Pre-final year at VIT Vellore, and after messing up all my FFCS and screwing up my credit balance. I think I am capable of answering this question because I have made all the mistakes in the book. Before we jump into the nitty-gritty of the whole process, let us understand that the curriculum (i.e., credit requirements and course credits) keeps changing year to year, and giving you a mathematical calculation of credits would hence be in vain. I am rather going to pump you up with pro tips such that you never make the mistakes I made. Pro-tip 1 -> Take more credits in the first two years of your college (closer to the maximum limit). Why? -> Because as you enter college, you are in the habit of gaining textual knowledge. Towards the end of your 4 years, you will develop other priorities (clubs, gf, internship, freelance, personal hobbies, etc). -> If you have less pressure towards the end, you can better focus on your placement or high studies preparation. Pro-tip 2 -> Scrape credits from extra-curricular, two-credit courses offered by clubs and chapters, NPTEL, VITOL, industrial internships, and whatever chances you get. These will add up to help you a lot in the end. Essentially, nobody can make this perfect schedule, things tend to go wrong. everyone has different priorities at different stages in life. And hence tweak and twist the split to your best benefit. For sure, you will mess up your FFCS. Don't worry, though, if you understand my point, then you will manage everything somehow and pass out of VIT with flying colors. There are many websites like ffcsonthego, which can help make this process smoother.

How good are the fests in the college?

keyboard_arrow_right

The highlight of one’s learning curve in VIT would probably be best elucidated by the plethora of clubs and chapters our university has to offer. Our cultural and technical fests, namely Riviera and Gravitas, respectively, are the channel through which the clubs and chapters present in our university showcase and organize a bucket of entertaining yet challenging events. The perfect proportion of technical and non-technical events, ranging from Hack-a-thons and Code Relays to Zorb Football and Galli Cricket to Riviera Performances and Food Stalls makes these a memorable few days in college. Apart from honing organizational and vocational skills, you will never lose out on time spent enjoying with your friends, especially when we host some of the most renowned comics and artists such as Rahul(both Dua and Subramaniam), Zakir Khan, Baadshah, DJ Shaan, just to name a few. To add to the thrilling excitement our fests have to offer, we have a lot of dramatics, music, and dance from all parts of the country which is a great way to learn, engage and appreciate the diverse cultures our country has to offer. Notwithstanding, the aforementioned success of these fests is credited to the organizing team that toils through the nights, ensuring that every fundamental building block to making these events the success that they are is well-rooted and established. This being said, organizing an event on a Pan-India scale is a great way to learn the confluence of management, ideation, and organization to leave the audience spellbound. In conclusion, whether you’re a part of the organizing committee, or a participant; (the back end or the front end - a sly reference for all the Developers out there), the most momentous and unforgettable few days of your life - infused with nights spent working with the most brilliant minds of your team, or screaming your lungs out to some EDM bangers, VIT fests has it all!

How important is getting a good CGPA?

keyboard_arrow_right

We would say CGPA are fairly important in VIT. The CGPA divides Vit in two parts. 9pointers and Non 9 pointers. There is no major difference between them just the 9+ ones do not have to attend classes and can skip 75% attendance rules. Talking seriously, People should try to keep CGPA above 8.5 because with regard to placements due to heavy competition the cutoffs for first round are increasing year by year. Trust me its very easy to be 8.5+ in VIT

Which block is the best in the Men's hostels and why?

keyboard_arrow_right

Want spacious rooms? Q Block has comparatively bigger rooms. (You can play cricket inside an 8-bed room!) Want peace and not so crowded? G and D-Annex are the way to go. Can’t live without AC? K, L, and Q blocks have centralized air-conditioned. G, D-Annex, and some other blocks also have AC options. K, E, G, and D blocks would cost you a few little fewer steps. Q block can create a mess in this regard. (Unless the SJT tunnel finishes…) Want the best mess? D-Annex simply has the best mess in the men’s hostel area. Also, your choice can depend upon the type of room you want as not every block has all kinds of rooms. But now to give you a general answer, Q, G, and D-Annex are some of the best blocks to live in inside the men’s hostel area.

What are the differences between CSE core and CSE specializations when it comes to placements? Do cse core students get preference during placements?

keyboard_arrow_right

There is no as such difference between core and specializations, 90% of things remain same from the perspective of academics. There is no difference in placements , just think of a company coming for recruitment for Machine Learning Engineer's profile.. mostly they would like to hire a candidate with good skills in Machine Learning not a candidate whose branch is Machine Learning but he doesn't know much about ML. So, in my opinion which ever branch you got is fine... just focus on building skills. Cheers!!
